How To Deal With Stress At Work

We live in the information age and because we deal with massive amounts of information every day it seems like we have less and less time to enjoy life. Our jobs are challenging and can easily become a source of stress especially if we have a lot of unfinished projects. Dealing with problems at work is quite a delicate issue and should not be treated lightly.

As with any area in life we first need to examine our choices as well as behavior because more often than not the answer lies within ourselves.
Self evaluation is a key factor when it comes to improving our lives because no one knows our qualities and weak points better than ourselves. By acknowledging the areas we need to improve on we can take the first steps toward change. Here are some things you can do today to make your work more productive and less stressful.

  • Limit or completely eliminate distractions

  • One of the major productivity killers are the various distractions that we allow in our life. Such distractions include:a cluttered desk,the habit of checking our e-mail several times a day or lack of assertiveness when dealing with coworkers.

  • Prioritize your work

  • Stress often occurs because we fail to organize priorities according to their order of importance and we find ourselves working on urgent low priority tasks instead of non-urgent but important tasks.
    Try organizing your work based on the relevance and importance of your projects, but make sure you don't go overboard by neglecting more urgent but less important task.

  • Identify your peak cycles of productivity

  • Every individual has a time of day when he or she is most productive. Some people work best early in the morning while others work better early in the evening or late at night. Knowing your ''peak time'' can help you tremendously because if you schedule the tasks that require the highest amount of energy during those times your productivity can be greatly enhanced.

  • Learn to say no

  • Often we find ourselves overwhelmed with the amount of work we have to do and things get even worse if we have a lot of new projects added every week. A little assertiveness can go a long way here. Try talking to your superior about your responsibilities and work schedule and together you should be able to find the solution that fits best to your situation.
